Audiophile- Dance of Sounds

In the last session of Tools and Technology class, we explored the deep connection of sound with arts. It was an eye opener for me as I never deliberated on sound as an inspiration for arts or even more; being arts itself. Learning more about this concept, the beauty of sound revealed itself on me. I find it mesmerizing how people have made use of sound not only to built high tech robotic sensors but creating art with sound. A few examples are described following.

  1. Dance of sound

Sound resonance eperiment based on Nikola Tesla’s theory of sound.

3. Plants fill seats at Barcelona opera house concert

Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu opera house reopened on Monday, June 22, and performed its first concert since the coronavirus lockdown — to an audience that didn’t have to worry about social distancing. These plants will then be sent to rehabilitation centers for COVID-19 patients as they are believed to carry the positive energy.

4. “The Great Animal Orchestra” by by Bernie Krause

This soundscape uses the sound of the animal world to create complex musical scores. Listening to haunting wolf howls, or ferocious growls from a jaguar, the whole soundscape hits in the gut in ways that no scientific paper alone can do that’s why this transformation of scientific material into pieces of art is critically important.

5. Tonotopia

‘Tonotopia: Listening Trough Cochlear Implants’ is a series of works developed by artist and composer Tom Tlalim in residency at the V&A and through dialogues with users of Cochlear Implants. The show explores technologically-extended listening. It is on show at the V&A’s John Lyons Charity Community Gallery from Fri October 12th untill March 2019.
