I believe Museums, archives, libraries, anthropologists and ethnologists play an invaluable role in preserving the rich cultural heritage of a planet.The word museum has pretty broad meaning which begins from small doll and ends up at wider range to an art gallery, a museum or an exhibition. As we all know that we are facing some uncertainties due to the pandemic. We are more into using digital tolls now a days. In fact Digital tools have made us realize that things in future are going to be change drastically. I found same feelings after having virtual trip to museums and archives.
It is my personal opinion is that museums and archives are absolutely fundamental and editable in preserving our history. Not only do these places keep important documentation, but in most cases they are the only places to keep these items where people are trained and have the equipment to keep them safe for future generations.
Citizens Archive Pakistan at the National History Museum (Lahore) an amazing Archive reviving the importance of oral history. CAP an organization that is passionate about sharing Pakistan’s stories. Well, this can be the best place for my students who are visual learners. I wonder how amazing will it be for my students to visit.. It can enhance the historical knowledge of my students.
After exploring the sites Historiography I found it to be significant because I can easily engage my students in creating timelines. It is an interactive timeline that covers almost the span of 14 billion years of history. We can just click on a particular time to watch a variety of events which have been happened in a particular period. When i tried it , i was astonished to find that it is covering over 400 years. I clicked and found Invention of internet in 1969. So there is invention of first train in 1804 and so on. I am impressed by this comprehensive site to explore a wide range of events.
After watching the mesmerizing pictures of Louvre museum, I was curious to know more about its facts. I am amazed to explore that it is the place of one of most famous paintings. We can imagine the worth of this museum that humanly it is not possible to visit whole museum in a day. The most recent estimation as to how many painting hang in the Louvre brings the number close to 7500.
The Museum of Modern Art situated in midtown Manhattan was the first museum reflecting the modern era. Modern Art is home to the world’s greatest collection of modern and contemporary art. After looking at the collection of the museum it urged me to investigate more about it. The expanded museum seems incredible. After looking at the collection in the museum I feel that it really would take a few visits to cover it. The galleries are beautifully lit and hung.
The most fascinating thing was to know about the Missing chapter,a fantastic research which has highlighted black presence prior to 1948 especially in Victoria and Britain in the form of photographic portraiture. It is covering a wide range of exhibitions, formal and informal learning. It will not be wrong if we credit it for the publication of a series of educational as well as scholarly resources in the form of print and digital media.It will not be wrong if i say that this is a real master piece. The researcher has beautifully depicted the conversation between present and the past.
while researching about archives i found many other interesting archives like “Discovering Literature: Romantics and Victorians” .The site also features films and teachers’ notes for lesson-planning, and is searchable by author, work, or theme. Some good themes to browse: popular culture, technology and science, or visions of the future.
The Photogrammar site, a Yale project, is an interface designed to make the huge archive of 1930s and 1940s Farm Security Administration and Office of War Information photographs more accessible for browsing.Richard Pryor’s Peoria is a companion site to Scott Saul’s Becoming Richard Pryor, a new biography of the comedian’s early years. This is providing a wide range of information in the form of a timeline or presented in the style of a map. When we click on a map we find many pictures.
It would not be wrong if i say that very soon the humans will be replaced by digital tools. Ultimately we are approaching towards a SAMR modal lesson planning, where S stands for substitute, A stands for Augmentation, M stands for Modification while R stands for Reconstruction. What is output of searching more about these tools is to use these fantastic tools in my teaching so that the journey of learning never stop and transfer to the students. So the journey has started, lets see where it ends………
