Getting the moon for you

June,18,2020

Today we explored a lot of new things in tools and technology class. We discussed sustainable future in which we were introduced with the term sustainable designs. Yasmeen Lari, Pakistan’s first female architect and provider of the disaster relief shelters. Mrs.Fan’s Plugin house, which can be easily assembled, and worlds first ink made out of air pollution in China. We searched for Graham and Google’s professional women emoji. “Olli” was also very interesting, a car that can lead you to your destination without driving and at the same time entertaining you with its smart robotic features was amusing but what caught my eye was “buying a piece of land on the moon”

I always imagined if the phrase ” aasmaan say chaand torh k lana“, which in English means “getting the moon for you”, was real but can you envisage that buying land on the moon can actually happen? This topic was the most interesting one though we talked about many other topics, they too were captivating but buying the moon is something which is I have never heard of.

Buying land on celestial bodies or claiming any planet as yours is actually forbidden among nations as stated in the Space Treaty by the united nations in 1967. The space Treaty has forbidden nations for claiming the extraterrestrial bodies as their own which is officially accepted by 102 countries by 2013. we can say it is just like the case of Antarctica and the seas but while discussing this topic during the lesson we were told that it was owned by Shushant Singh Rajpoot so how is it possible to have a property on moon?

Then after some more research, I came to know, though space treaty states on claiming celestial body as your own among nations illegal it is not stated that you cannot claim it as your own individually. So there are certain private organizations which have claimed them as there own and in fact, they are selling them on the internet and many places. It is said that after getting its ownership you receive a certificate often known as “the lunar deed” and the rate of the 1 acre of the moon is 29.99$ so almost 5000 in Pakistani rupees which is quite cheap yet expensive.

For example, if somebody buys it he/she is, to some extent, wasting his/her money and time, now you can say that it is pretty cheap when thinking about one acre of land but it is not as cheap when that land is on the moon rather it is expensive, no, but a total, straight scam. I mean when are you going to the moon? And who is taking you to the moon when astronauts themselves have to face hard training to just visit the outer space. If I think of buying the moon I would rather buy a small land on the earth where I am surrounded by people what am I going to do in the moon alone moreover there will be an assurity that my land is right here under my eyes. But it still depends on people’s choices if they have a hobby for buying such type of things there is no harm in it.
